Description
Your tenor soloist will shine with this fresh take on a Renaissance-era French Christmas carol. In the style of Gil Evans, you’ll enjoy the slow groove over a modal chord progression that allows your tenor soloist to flourish. An acapella intro, odd time signatures, and an exciting climax allow your ensemble to join the storytelling. Your featured tenor player will dazzle audiences performing this emphatically sensitive chart.
I wrote this arrangement while vacationing on an island on Lake Temagami. It was to be the slow movement in a planned suite of five carols. I moved on to other projects after I wrote one other movement. The Jazz Police recorded this chart on their album Celebration. The late, great Greg Metcalf performed is the featured soloist.
